The newsworthy stuff.
From our latest credit union news and #CommunityMatters efforts to our Community Event room, these are the moments, happenings and newsworthy mentions.
#CommunityMatters
Since their inception, credit unions worldwide have shared a common philosophy of “People Helping People.”
In 2019, we revisited this essential value and initiated a new program, #CommunityMatters, with the aim of creating a significant and lasting impact on the communities we serve.

We continue to live our #communitymatters initiative. On April 27, we donated and installed our 3rd Blessing Box at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library location on East Court Avenue in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
The Blessing Boxes serve as emergency food micro-pantries to help those struggling to make ends meet.
We want to thank Jeffersonville Township Public Library, for allowing us to partner with them in providing for those in need in our community.
#CommunityMatters 2022 Donations
We have selected five non-profits worthy of our recognition and support.
Click here for our 2022 #Communitymatters recipients.
The non-profits are:
Sponsor of Rotary Club of Clarksville’s “I Like Me” books distributed to the local kindergarten students in Clark County.
Southern Indiana Animal Rescue.
Please help us bring support & awareness to these wonderful organizations in our community!
Blessing Box
In 2019, we launched our first Blessing Box at our Lewis & Clark Parkway location in Clarksville, Indiana. This small pantry is stocked with non-perishable food items and is intended to aid the underprivileged in our society. With many individuals in our community struggling to make ends meet, emergency food accessibility is in high demand. Therefore, we have extended our support by donating multiple Blessing Boxes to non-profit organizations throughout Clark and Floyd counties. We hope our contributions will help to address the issue of food scarcity in our communities.

To celebrate. To commemorate. To honor. Our offices are closed on these holidays.

Elder Financial Abuse: Spot the Signs and Protect What Matters Most
June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month – Let’s Talk About Financial Exploitation
As our loved ones age, their wisdom and life experiences are priceless. But so is their financial security. Unfortunately, elder financial abuse is one of the fastest-growing and most underreported crimes affecting seniors today.
According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), suspicious financial activity linked to elder exploitation typically goes undetected for an average of four months. What starts as a “small favor” or innocent-looking transaction can quietly snowball into devastating losses.
The average loss when a trusted person is involved? Around $50,000 per case.
That’s why awareness is one of the strongest forms of protection.
How Elder Financial Abuse Often Starts
It rarely looks like a dramatic crime at first. Instead, it hides in everyday interactions:
- A phone call that creates panic or urgency (“You must act now!”)
- Requests for money or help from a family member, friend, or new “close companion”
- Small, frequent withdrawals or transfers that gradually increase
- A new person suddenly involved in financial decisions or accessing accounts
- Pressure to change wills, add names to accounts, or sign documents quickly
The hardest truth? Most perpetrators aren’t strangers. They’re often people the older adult knows and trusts — which is exactly why these situations are so painful and hard to detect.
Why It’s Hard to Catch
Most elder financial abuse involves bank transfers or electronic payments that can appear completely normal on a statement. Even when red flags appear, fewer than 1 in 3 cases are reported to authorities. This silence allows the abuse to continue far longer than it should.
The Simple Strategy That Works: Pause. Ask. Protect.
The best defense doesn’t require complex tools — just intention and support:
🛑 Pause When something feels urgent or off, take a breath. Scammers and manipulators thrive on speed. Slowing down is powerful.
❓ Ask Talk it over with someone you trust — a family member, advisor, or your credit union. A second opinion can save tens of thousands of dollars.
🛡️ Protect Stay informed about common tactics, monitor accounts regularly, and set up safeguards like transaction alerts and trusted contact permissions.
