About
Us
One Vision Federal Credit Union was founded with a single, powerful
vision: to provide affordable financial resources to the common man.
As the world evolves our vision remains the same and continues to
reinforce our commitment to our members.
In January 1954, Father Xavier Knopp, Pastor of St. Anthony
of Padua Catholic Church, spearheaded the founding of St.
Anthony's Poverello Federal Credit Union. A longtime believer
in the credit union movement, Father wanted his parishioners
to have the benefit of controlling their own finances while
offering cost efficient services to individuals of all economic
levels. Father had the term Poverello, meaning for the “little
poor man,” placed in the name to symbolize the need
for the common man to have access to the financial world.
The
Credit Union set about its business of providing a safe
place for members to build their savings while borrowing
for their special needs. Dividend rates on savings exceeded
what could be received from other financial institutions.
Interest rates on loans were lower than could be obtained
out in the marketplace. Loans also were more readily available,
because it was the member’s character that was the
utmost criteria for a loan, not social status. These hallmark
characteristics remain today.
To preserve our past and embrace our future a decision was made to change
the name of the credit union to One Vision Federal Credit Union. While
expressing our commitment to our existing members, One Vision Federal Credit Union
embraces the community and reminds us of the values that we were founded on.
As times have changed, membership in One Vision
Federal Credit Union has become available to more people. Once offered
only to the parishioners and their families of St. Anthony's,
membership has been expanded twice: first, to members of
any of the nineteen Southern Indiana parishes in the
New Albany Deanery of the Archdiocese
of Indianapolis, and most recently, to anyone who lives, works,
attends school or worships in Clark, Floyd or Harrison Counties.
Our Credit Union has provided the members a stable financial
environment to save and borrow. The Credit Union has over
20% capital, more than double the National Credit Union
Administration's (NCUA) target (10%) for strongly capitalized
credit unions.
